Aviation Technology Learning Community Activity
This fall, the Aviation Technology Department developed two Learning Community programs for first-year students in aviation. The first-year students in the learning communities are paired in a common course, and participate in weekly activities throughout thier first semester at Purdue. As one of the weekly activities, the students visited the Red Tail Rise Above exhibit together, and helped move the aircraft and see the WWII plane take off for a practice flight above the Boilermaker football stadium.

Red Tail Rise Above Exhibit
The Commemorative Air Force Red Tail Squadron brought the traveling Rise Above exhibit to Purdue University. The Rise Above exhibit honors the Tuskeegee Airmen, the first African American pilots who served in WWII. These heros overcame innumerable obstacles and inspire a legacy of determination, honor, and perseverence.

War-Bird Fly-In
Members of the Women In Aviation student organization travelled to Elkhart, Indiana to attend an event featuring aircraft from WWII. The group is creating a calendar featuring WWII-era fashion, vintage photography, and the warbird aircraft. Calendars will be available to purchase, with details to follow.

Aviation Technology Learning Communities
Weekly Lunch
The Aviation Technology Learning Communities meet weekly for lunch and discussion (and laughter) at the Earhart Hall Dining Court each Friday. Guest speakers and special topics are featured each week, and the group enjoys the awesome food served at Earhart.

The College of Technology welcomed first-year students to life at Purdue with a college-wide convocation followed by an ice cream social on the Friday before the first day of classes in August, 2012.
