International Students Interested in Professional Flight Technology

International students are eligible to apply for admission to the Professional Flight Technology major in Aviation Technology.  You will compete academically with other applicants. However, there are some additional requirements that apply to international applicants:

  1. Minimum TOEFL of 570 (written test) or equivalent computer score for international applicants whose native tongue is not English.
  2. Minimum SAT (or ACT equivalent) of 550 each, verbal and math.
  3. Minimum grade point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale.

You will also need high school grade transcripts, a student visa, and proof of financial support. The International Students and Scholars Office listed below can explain these requirements. Additionally, if accepted as a first semester freshman, you will need at least an FAA second class medical certificate and student pilot certificate.

Additional requirements imposed by the Federal Aviation Administration, Transportation Security Administration, and other United States government agencies will likely delay the start of flight training. Because of this, international students will normally not enroll in flight classes until the second semester of the program and will be required to attend one summer session

To be considered for acceptance as a second semester freshman, applicants must be a current Purdue undergraduate student in another major, possess an unrestricted U.S. FAA private pilot certificate, single engine land, and at least an FAA second class medical certificate.

To be considered for acceptance as a junior, applicants must have at least 30 credit hours of transferable coursework from an accredited undergraduate program excluding any credit earned for the private, commercial, or instrument flight, ground, or flight training device courses, an unrestricted U.S. FAA commercial pilot certificate - single engine land, an unrestricted U.S. FAA instrument rating - airplane, and at least a second class FAA medical certificate.
