Stewart W. Schreckengast Ph. D.Lecturer
Campus: West Lafayette Biography:Dr. Schreckengast conducts aviation safety and security undergraduate and graduate courses and research in the Aviation Technology Department. Prior to joining Purdue in 2008, he worked in the Office of the Secretary General of ICAO. He provided technical support, training and assistance to ICAO member States in the implementation of ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs). Specific areas of interest included Aerodromes, Accident Investigation and Flight Operations oversight. He is an FAA and ICAO Safety Management System (SMS) Instructor. Before joining ICAO, Dr. Schreckengast was a Project Engineer at The MITRE Corporation’s Center for Advanced Aviation Systems Development (CAASD) where he conducted research, development and implementation of domestic and international airport capacity and terminal airspace enhancements in support of the FAA. Other areas of experience include Human Factors with focus on database analysis and accident investigation, Controlled Flight Into Terrain (CFIT), Runway Incursion Mitigation, Airport Emergency Planning, Airport and Airline Policy and Procedure Manuals, and airspace management. Prior to joining CAASD, Dr. Schreckengast was a Naval Aviator for 22 years retiring as the Safety Officer onboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, CVN 69. Dr. Schreckengast holds a Commercial Pilot Certification with single and multi-engine airplane, rotorcraft and sea plane ratings. He is also a certified flight instructor in those aircraft. He has authored numerous articles and reports on aviation safety and security along with presentations on those topics at many international forums.
