Faculty Profile:

Name:J. Eric Dietz
Associate Professor
Department:Computer and Information Technology
Associate Professor

Eric Dietz’s efforts to support the Uniformed Army Scientist and Engineer PhD program have garnered him a special U.S. Army Certificate of Commendation. Through his efforts as managing director of the Purdue Homeland Security Institute (May 2004-February 2005), executive director for Indiana Homeland Security (April 2005-March 2008), and now a professor in Purdue’s College of Technology, Dietz has helped recruit and guide Army officers into PhD programs at the University. In addition, he helped push legislation that would make it more affordable for these students to attend state universities such as Purdue.

Dietz is now focused on developing a research program that will foster collaboration between the cyberforensics program in the Department of Computer and Information Technology and Purdue’s Homeland Security Institute in Discovery Park.

“I bring three years worth of ideas from Indiana’s Homeland Security office,” Dietz says. He’ll use that background to identify research areas. These, in turn, will create homeland security applications for existing advanced technologies.

“I think the general public would be floored to know how much Purdue is doing to secure the nation and help it defend itself. They’d be surprised to know how many people are improving life and safety with applied research projects,” Dietz says.
