Goal

The goal of the Demolition & Reconstruction Management (DEMR) concentration program is to provide a higher level of education for those Building Construction Management (BCM) students who are interested in the fields of demolition and reconstruction. Specific coursework applicable to demolition and reconstruction in the areas of estimating, safety & risk management, project planning, specialized techniques & technologies, heavy equipment utilization, project management, codes & regulations, hazardous materials, issues involving historic properties, material reuse & recycling, waste material disposal, and ethics will provide students the necessary skills required for entry-level positions in the demolition and reconstruction industries.

Information

Upon completion of the following plan of study, and in conjunction with the core requirements of the BCM program, the student will receive the "Demolition & Reconstruction Management Concentration" designation on their transcript. Students who choose to pursue the DEMR concentration will complete the core required course of BCM and complete an additional six (6) credit hours of courses which are specific to demolition and reconstruction.

BCM 330 - Introduction to Demolition and Reconstruction Management (Class 3, CR. 3.; Prerequisite: BCM Major or instructor approval)

This course introduces the opportunities and challenges in demolition and reconstruction management. Topics include: introduction to industry regulation, project planning, labor and equipment utilization, techniques and technologies, hazardous materials, issues involving historic poroperties, material reuse and recycling, safety and risk management, estimating and cost control, project feasibility, issues of ethics, and company management.

BCM 331 - Advanced Demolition and Reconstruction Management (Class 3, Cr. 3; Prerequisite: BCM 33000 or instructor approval; co-requisite: BCM 35000 or instructor approval.)

Advanced topics in demolition and reconstruction management to further develop the students’ ability to integrate knowledge, skills, and abilities essential for effective project management in the concentration. Emphasis is placed on project level planning, problem solving, and execution.
