CGT Admissions Requirements

The Department of Computer Graphics Technology (CGT) expects that all applicants for graduate study within this department will exhibit competency in the following areas as a result of their undergraduate education and experiences:

  • Communication
  • Visualization
  • Creativity
  • Technology

As a result of progress through the graduate program in the College of Technology , and specifically the Applied Computer Graphics area of specialization, students will exhibit the following core competencies:

  • Ability to develop methods of inquiry related to computer graphics and its applications
  • High level application of graphical knowledge and skills
  • Demonstration of leadership potential

Required Items for Application

Each applicant for study in the CGT Department should submit:

  • A Statement of Purpose that is to be included as part of the online application in Apply Yourself.
  • Four (4) samples of their best work which demonstrate the aforementioned undergraduate competencies (first list above). These samples of work should also demonstrate the applicant's level of potential ability for demonstrating the graduate competency areas (second list above).
  • A writing sample that clearly conveys their ability to communicate in a written form, such as a final term paper, excerpts from an undergraduate or graduate thesis, or a published article for which the applicant is the sole author. Please limit writing samples to five (5) pages or less.
  • Official copies of their transcripts for all degrees recieved.
    • If your college transcript is from outside the U.S., you must also submit a brief explanation of your college’s grading system. Include the grading scale (the range of possible grades, from the lowest to the highest possible grade) used at your college.
    • If your college transcript is from outside the U.S., it would help if you include along with your original transcript a version that shows all your grades and grade point averages as percentages. For example, a grade of 3.0 out of a possible 4.0 would be shown as 75%.

  • Official GRE score reports are required by the College of Technology and the CGT Department. Your scores must be sent to Purdue by the ETS service for the scores to be considered official.
  • International degree-seeking applicants whose native language is not English are required to submit Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) scores for Purdue University Graduate School admission.Your scores must be sent to Purdue by the ETS service for the scores to be considered official.
  • Three or more recommendation letters.

When the CGT departmental graduate committee receives the applicant's samples of work, the application will be considered complete and will be reviewed. Printed or digital (web, DVD or CD) formats for the samples are acceptable ; however, the materials will not be returned to the applicant. The applicant's role in defining and producing each sample item should be clearly stated.
