Special Project Title/Description:

Information Systems Training Program

The Purdue University Information Systems Training Program (1999-2001) implemented and delivered a credit-based continuing education program to retool degree-holding, non-IT staff at Purdue for reassignment to vacant IT positions within the University. Cohort groups of 12-15 hand selected Purdue employees were engaged in an intensive 13 week curriculum of 18 credit hours that included courses in personal computer applications, information technology architecture, Access and SQL programming, Visual Basic programming, data communications, and systems analysis and design methods. Graduates participated in two internships within the University before reassignment to permanent IT positions within the University. Approximately 30 non-IT workers have been assigned to permanent IT jobs as a result of this program. The program was awarded the 2000 Process Improvement/Resource Enhancement Award by the College and University Personnel Association.
