About the Center for Technology

The Purdue Center for Technology Development was officially launched Wednesday, January 11 with the signing of the charter by the founding members. The Center is housed and supported at the College of Technology and is a collaborative effort among the faculty from several CoT departments as well as faculty from the College of Engineering.

The Center’s main focus is to engage in applied research with industry in a partnership that addresses technology development. CTD aims to provide a linkage between fundamental research and Technology-ready solutions through focused applied research that can be defined primarily under Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 3-5, as shown in the figure.

The core faculty have a range of expertise and can assist with a variety of research projects, from design to analysis, and from testing to reverse engineering. The scope of the center's work will depend on the needs of its members.

CTD is a multidisciplinary center addressing technological issues that industry faces to help its partners remain competitive. A multidisciplinary approach and innovation are at the core of the center, which is designed to be a valuable resource and partner for the industry. CTD integrates a team of world-class faculty, graduate and undergraduate students and grants access to the results of basic and applied research to develop technologies and products with immediate impact for the industry.

CTD provides a platform for industry partners needing a diversified set of resources to carry out high-risk research and development. The partners are involved in direct collaboration with Purdue faculty and staff and have access to Purdue labs and centers.

The center focuses on working with industry on immediate, short- and medium-term needs. It also addresses educational and training requirements; outreach and funding from U.S. government agencies and international organizations; and international engagement as appropriate. Activities will be modified based on the industry member needs and requirements.

The center will ensure that it has the capacity and capability to address industry needs for product development and innovation considering the state-of-the-art in information storage, processing, transfer and control systems, sensors, precision mechanical, electro-hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical functional units, electro-mechanical drive systems, as well as different aspects of communication including wireless systems.
