Description
The objective of the Biomedical Informatics Program is to become internationally recognized Center of Excellence in basic and applied biomedical information technology training, research and technology development, and lead the development of this emerging discipline. This effort is reflected in the establishment of an interdisciplinary curriculum that provides training in genomic technology and information systems, bioinformatics systems analysis and development, exposure to nationally recognized professionals in this arena, and the integration of applied genomic research projects into the largely information technology training program. Graduates of this program are destined to serve as leaders in bioinformatics, biotechnology applications development, bio-security systems development, and play an integral role in the field of personalized medicine, drug discovery, and disease diagnostics. Ultimately, information technology students deploy their skills within the biomedical informatics domain through the design, development, implementation and management of discovery support systems.
