Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET)

Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) is more than machinery; it is methods, materials, machinery, and manpower coming together to solve industrial problems. It is the application of scientific and engineering principles to questions of product development manufacturing, manufacturing processes, quality control, materials, fluid power, heat power, mechanics, design, and cost analysis. Mechanical Engineering Technology also concerns the generation, transmission, and utilization of mechanical, thermal, and fluid energy, and the design and production of tools and machines and their products.

Careers

MET graduates are job-ready at graduation. They find employment opportunities where they are required to solve mechanical problems, work with their minds as well as their hands, and utilize their math and science skills. Graduates of the B.S. program in MET accept jobs as laboratory technicians, engineering aides, plant maintenance staff, layout staff, production assistants, and technical sales staff. With additional experience they can be promoted to positions such as industrial supervisors, machine and tool designers, technical buyers, production expediters and cost estimators.
