Typical ECET Graduate Assistantships
Laboratory Teaching Assistant: As a Laboratory teaching Assistant, the graduate student works under the direction of the laboratory instructor.Duties vary depending upon the course and circumstances , but generally will include:
1)Interacting with students on a one-to-one basis to answer questions about the laboratory assignment.
2)Assisting with grading of pre-laboratory assisgnments.
3)Serving as the laboratory instructor when the assigned instructor is out of town,ill or absent for another legitimate reason.
Laboratory Teaching Assistants are typically assigned to freshman and sophomore level courses.The individual has a choice of technology(eg:analog,digital,microprocessor, etc)is given consideration in the selection of courses for the assignment.
Laboratory Instructor: As a Laboratory Instructor, the graduate student works under the supervision of the course coordinator.As a minimum,duties include working with the course coordinator and the instructors of other laboratory divisions to assure commonality of laboratory teaching procedures and subject matter across all laboratory divisions.In addition to this the laboratory instructor is expected to review , grade all pre-laboratory work, interact with students on one-to-one basis during the laboratory period to assure the material is learned,collect and grade all laboratory reports and return them to the students not later than the next laboratory session.
Graduate Laboratory Instructors are typically assigned to freshman and sophomore level courses.The individual has a choice of technology as above.
Graduate Teaching Assistant: A Graduate Teaching Assistant in the ECET department is assigned to a member to a member of the faculty to support the development of teaching material that could include prototyping new circuits for laboratory exercises, development of material to be presentedin distance education initiatives(e.g. homework over the web,laboratory work over the web using Labview etc.).Graduate Teaching Assistants may be assigned to faculty at any level(i.e freshmen through senior)of the program.The individual has a choice of technology as above.
Graduate Research Assistant: A Graduate Teaching Assistant in the ECET department is assigned to a member to a member of the faculty in order to pursue his research interests and he has a well equiped lab where in he could carry out his scientific research.One has an option to pursue research as his thesis topic or he could choose any topic of his interest.
