Biometric technologies refers to the automatic identification or identity verification of individuals based on physiological and/or behavioral characteristics. The department has positioned itself as a leader in the field through course development at undergraduate and graduate levels, state-of-the-art laboratory development, and conducting interdisciplinary research. The department is heavily involved in research in fundamental problems in biometric research, testing, and evaluation of biometric products. Research in the field is integral to understanding and advancing the knowledge, not only in the field of biometrics, but also in forensic science, law enforcement, electrical engineering (extraction of features), and computer science (algorithm development).
