Applied Research and Labs

Through learning, discovery, and engagement activities we will position ourselves as the leader in these areas, and in pursuit of such effort we will commit resources. Activities in the signature areas involve partnership with other departments within the School of Technology, with other Purdue schools, and with related business and industry.

Biometrics

Biometric identification technologies refers to the automatic identification or identity verification of individuals based on physiological and/or behavioral characteristics. The department has positioned itself in the field through course development at undergraduate and graduate levels, state-of-the-art laboratory development, and conducting interdisciplinary research. The department is heavily involved in research in fundamental problems in biometric research, testing, and evaluation of biometrics. Research in the field is  integral to understanding and advancing the knowledge, not only in the field of biometrics, but also in forensic science, law enforcement, electrical engineering (extraction of features), and computer science (algorithm development). Technology Teacher Preparation in Pre-Engineering Education

Purdue University’s technology education program is the national model for preparation of technology education teachers focused on pre-engineering education.  Purdue University is the only teacher preparation institution in the nation to provide this pre-engineering education to its undergraduate students. Purdue’s program integrates the pre-engineering requirements of Project Lead The Way (PLTW) throughout the curriculum.  This provides Purdue University’s technology education graduates with the competencies to teach the PLTW courses of Gateway to Technology, Introduction to Engineering Design, Principles of Engineering, Computer Integrated Manufacturing, Civil Engineering and Architecture, and Engineering Design and Development. Distribution Management and Inventory Control with Supply Chain Management

The Supply Chain Management Technology Laboratory is dedicated to support teaching, evaluation, and research in multiple areas including warehousing, supply chain management, inventory management, financial planning for distribution, logistics, technical sales and sales management and safety. The unique niche for this laboratory is the focus on simulating an industrial warehouse environment with flexible demonstration modules and simulation capabilities for multiple activities within industrial supply chains.
