Getting to know Bedrich Benes

Bedrich Benes, associate professor of computer graphics technology

A native of the Czech Republic, Bedrich Benes earned his master’s and doctoral degrees in computer science from Czech Technical University in Prague. After teaching computer science for six years in Mexico, he came to Purdue with his family in 2005. An associate professor of computer graphics technology, he has helped establish the department's master of science degree. Potential graduate students from around the world have expressed an interest in studying with him and assisting with his work. His graduate students have become employed with companies such as Dreamworks and Microsoft. He and his wife, Alejandra Magana, have two children. She is a visiting professor in the Department of Computer and Information Technology and Engineering Education this academic year.

Air TIES, a CoT center for alternative fuels, approved

Richard Buckius, vice president for research, has approved the Air Transport Institute for Environmental Sustainability (Air TIES) to be listed as an official Purdue center. It will be housed at the Purdue Airport.

Members from Purdue’s 2011 Solar Decathlon team traveled to Orlando, Fla., recently to attend the NAHB International Builders Show.

Four College of Technology professors comprise the editorial team of the newly created Journal of Aviation Technology and Engineering (JATE).

New aviation master's degree receives ICHE approval

At its December 2010 meeting, the Indiana Commission on Higher Education (ICHE) approved the College of Technology proposal to offer a master’s degree in aviation and aerospace management. It is the fourth CoT program able to offer a stand-alone master's degree instead of a specialization within technology. The other programs are: computer graphics technology, computer and information technology, and industrial technology.


Fuehne presents papers at IMECE

Joe Fuehne, associate professor of mechanical engineering technology in Columbus, recently presented four papers at the ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition (IMECE) in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Endowed scholarship to aid Building Construction Management students

Students interested in a career in the electrical construction industry have a new opportunity to fund their education, thanks to a new scholarship fund. The David R. Huston Memorial Scholarship has been established for the Department of Building Construction Management. It is named in honor of a 1952 Purdue graduate and the former president and CEO of Huston Electric, Inc., in Kokomo, Ind.

In recognition of Women's History month in March, Purdue Marketing and Media's "5 Students Who" online feature will highlight Purdue undergraduate and graduate women who have, in some small or large way, made history or are poised to.

Study abroad program development - Technology session

Brian Harley and Glenda Allinder from Study Abroad and staff from the Division of Financial Aid will conduct a special Technology session on study abroad program development Thursday, Jan. 27 in Brown Laboratory of Chemistry, Room 4106, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

The DFA staff will provide information on how students can seek financial support for their study abroad experiences.
