DIT partnership paves way for Fulbright scholar to research at Purdue

Paul Duffy shows off the monitoring system he is creating as part of his Fulbright research.

The College of Technology is hosting a Fulbright Scholar from Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) this academic year. Paul Duffy, who is working on his doctorate in mechanical engineering at DIT, is developing an online water monitoring control system. After hearing about the work done by Michael Kane, associate professor of computer and information technology, in DNA detection technology, Duffy knew he would benefit from working with Kane on his project.

Getting to know Terry O'Connor

Pat and Terry O'Connor work together to prepare testimony using cell phone forensics.

Terry O’Connor is an associate professor of electrical and computer engineering technology at the College of Technology at New Albany. He is a graduate of Northern Arizona University where he received a bachelor’s degree in engineering technology. He received his master’s degree in engineering technology from West Texas State University.

His professional interests include cell phone forensics and ultra low frequency/very low frequency wave propagation research. He has served as an expert witness in court on cell phone forensics, which he handles through his company, O’Connor Cell Phone Forensics. This summer, his son, Pat, who is a mechanical engineering major at Purdue, helped Terry with his company’s research.

YouTube videos help MET professor reach global audience

Mark French has added another element to his teaching arsenal – YouTube videos. He created a PurdueMET YouTube channel, and in less than a year, he has posted more than 70 videos that have been viewed more than 80,000 times.

CoT students part of new Oaken Bucket tradition

BCM student Bryan Morris leads the final leg of the Oaken Bucket Relay to deliver the game ball to Coach Danny Hope.

The Old Oaken Bucket football game ball made a 110-mile trip from Bloomington to West Lafayette Nov. 27, courtesy of the Purdue Veterans Organization and ROTC students from Purdue and Indiana universities. Bryan Morris, a student in the Department of Building Construction Management, and Stephen Schmid, a student in the Department of Aviation Technology, were organizers of the game-day ball relay.

Software requests due to TCN by Dec. 17.

TCN has begun planning for Spring 2011 software needs in the college's labs. To help, all professors are asked to verify the software needs of the courses they teach.

Ambassadors collecting donations for Food Finders Food Bank

Ellen Zouras and Kyle Hannon load food donations to be delivered to Food Finders Nov. 23.

The College of Technology Student Ambassadors are sponsoring a food drive through December 3 to benefit Food Finders Food Bank of Lafayette. The Food Bank serves thousands of families throughout Indiana.
