Creating opportunities for tech transfer

Government and industry are increasingly tapping into the knowledge of university faculty to identify areas of research that have potential for commercial implementation. The College of Technology has recognized this growing trend by giving it priority in its 2009-2014 Strategic Plan.

The Technology Transfer, Commercialization and Entrepreneurship team, led by Matt McKillip, Lonnie Bentley and Eric Dietz, has been analyzing the developments in this area and seeking ways to efficiently and effectively deliver faculty research and intellectual property to the marketplace.

Strategic Plan leadership team updates

While the entire college should play a role in the implementation of the College of Technology 2009-2014 Strategic Plan, more formal responsibility for direction has been placed in the hands of seven leadership teams. Each of these teams have been assigned key strategy areas of the plan. The teams are charged with overseeing action plans, establishing metrics, identifying challenges, and tracking progress toward goals in their assigned areas.

Dean search committee formed

A search and advisory committee for the College of Technology dean has been appointed. Vic Lechtenberg, vice provost for engagement, will chair the committee.

Dark appointed Furnas Professor; new MS degree moves forward

The Purdue Board of Trustees ratified Melissa Dark's appointment as W.C. Furnas Professor in the College of Technology during its meeting this week. Dark is associate dean for research and strategic planning and professor of computer and information technology.

The Board also gave initial approval to a new master's degree in aviation and aerospace management, which will be administered by Department of Aviation Technology. The degree program must still be approved by the Indiana Commission of Higher Education.

TCN merges with Engineering Computer Network

As the Technology Computer Network (TCN) merges into the Engineering Computer Network (ECN), CoT employees will begin seeing changes in how information technology needs are addressed.
