Getting to know Jeff Evans
Jeff Evans, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering
technology, has been with the department since 2003. Prior to that he
spent 20 years working in industry in the Chicago suburbs. He worked his
way from hardware and software design to advanced development and
system and software architecture. He started work on his Ph.D. in 2001
at the same time that the telecommunications “bubble” burst. He finished
his doctorate and focused his job search on academia and research, and
he landed at Purdue’s College of Technology.

Solar Decathlon team coverage updated daily
The College of Technology communications office, the Solar Decathlon Team, and one student blogger have been providing updates and insights into the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2011, which runs through Oct. 2. All of the posts, updated daily, can be found on the TechPurdue Solar Decathlon blog.
The team is currently in first place after the results of the Affordability contest were announced Sept. 27. Purdue and the Parsons New School/Stevens team were the only two (of 19) to be awarded full points for this contest.

CoT-sponsored conference planned for technology businesses
The Purdue College of Technology is planning a one-day conference for
small and medium sized technology businesses to help them explore ways
to expand their businesses.
The Indiana Conference for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprise,
scheduled for November 18, 2011, will focus on research, technology,
innovation, markets and marketing. Participants will learn about
accessing foreign markets and leveraging existing resources to
strengthen their business and their regional economies.

2011 United Way campaign under way

The 2011 Purdue United Way campaign “Growing the Future, Living United” is underway. Brent Bowen, department head and professor of aviation technology, is the College of Technology senior United Way Chair.
Please take a moment to review your United Way pledge card and consider the many options available. Even if a donation is not where you can help at this time, we encourage you to return your pledge card to your departmental team captain as soon as possible. With the return of the pledge card everyone will receive a United Way poster depicting the theme “Growing the Future, Living United”. Pledge cards can be returned to team captains:

Faculty appointments/accolades

Director of Product Lifecycle Management
Nate Hartman, associate professor of computer graphics technology, has been appointed director of product lifecycle management (PLM) for the College of Technology. In this new role, Harter will coordinate and seek opportunities in the area of product realization through the coordination of design, analysis, advanced manufacturing, supply chain, and service and support.
"The college has islands of excellence in all these areas, and we need better coordination to seek opportunities for funded research, new degree options, prototyping capabilities to support our efforts in innovation and commercialization, and industry support to upgrade labs and donations," said Gary Bertoline, dean, when announcing the appointment.
The appointment is pending the approval from the provost's office.

Interim Associate Dean for Academic Affairs & Diversity
Jamie Mohler has been appointed interim associate dean for academic affairs and diversity. He will be responsible for undergraduate and graduate studies, taking on the responsibilities of Mary Sadowski. The addition of diversity to the position will provide the Dean's Office with the overall coordination of diversity efforts through the college's Diversity Committee led by Alka Harriger, the department-based Diversity Coordinators, and Toni Munguia and Ebony Gilbert in the Diversity Office in Knoy 150. Mohler is working with Sadowski during this transition and will be full time in his new role on October 1.
The appointment is pending the approval from the provost's office.

Indiana Innovation Awards
DelMar Information Technologies LLC was one of several recipients of the inaugural Indiana Innovation Awards Monday.
Based at the Purdue Research Park in West Lafayette, Delmar was founded by president Kyle Lutes, associate professor of computer and information technology.
DelMar was recognized for its Electronic Poll Book software, which streamlines the check-in process at vote centers or precinct-based polling places.

Flu shots
Flu shots will be available on campus for faculty, staff, and their spouse or same sex domestic partner beginning October 12. They are offered to benefit-eligible faculty, staff, graduate staff and retirees.
Register for your shot online at www.purdue.edu/worklife.
Insured individuals may also get a shot at a covered retail location (list online), or from their health care provider.

Purdue University will launch a partnership Wednesday (Sept. 28) with
Zipcar Inc., the world's leading car-sharing network, to offer a Zipcar
car-sharing program on campus.

Annual print, poster exchange for faculty/staff set
|
The University Visual Arts Committee's Annual Print and Poster Exchange is October 10-11 in Pao Hall, Room 1154.
This program is free to all Purdue staff and faculty to obtain pictures for hanging in campus reception areas, conference rooms and offices. Borrow pictures (like a book from the library) and trade this year's selection at a future exchange. Pictures may be kept up to 36 months for free. A retention fee is incurred if pictures are kept longer than three years.
If you already participate in the exchange, you should have received an email regarding the art you currently have in your possession. Trade sessions are 12:30 to 2:00 p.m., Monday, Oct. 10, and 10:30 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, Oct. 11.
If you want to participate, the session for new loans is from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 11.
