Purdue selected for three-year EcoCAR 2 competition

Purdue will be one of 16 universities who will have a team in the three-year EcoCAR 2 competition, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and General Motors (GM). Teams were announced April 13.

The competition challenges the teams to convert a Chevrolet Malibu into a hybrid/electric or fuel-cell vehicle to reduce its environmental impact without compromising performance, safety and consumer acceptability.

Solar Decathlon team celebrates building milestone

Solar Decathlon team members guide a small tree to its resting place as part of the Topping Off Party April 29.

Bassetts create new MET scholarship fund

Roger and Carol Bassett have created an endowed scholarship for mechanical engineering technology students interested in careers related to fire protection. Roger Bassett graduated from Purdue in 1959 with a degree in mechanical engineering. They are owners of R.W. Bassett and Associates.

Roger Bassett is a lifetime member of Purdue Alumni Association. Former president of the Illinois State Fire Protection Commissioners, he received the “Doc Wilson” Award from the Illinois Association of Fire and Police Commission. It is the highest award that can be presented to a commissioner in the state.

The first scholarships will be awarded once the endowment is fully funded.

White receives community service student grant

MET student, Ethan White, received a grant from the Student Grant Program for Community Service/Service Learning Projects awarded on February 23, 2011.

Arana wins race at NHRA nationals

Hector Arana Jr., an MET junior at the College of Technology at New Albany, won a first-round race in the pro stock motorcycle category during the National Hot Rod Association's O'Reilly Auto Parts Spring Nationals April 29-May 1 in Houston. It was the first time that Arana qualified for a race in the series. Arana is from of Milltown, Ind.


Congratulations graduating seniors

Congratulations, seniors, on reaching the point that all of you have been waiting for since you began your career at Purdue University. Graduating from Purdue University is a huge accomplishment. While it hasn't always been easy, Purdue has provided you with a great educational background that has made you better prepared for the workforce.

The MET Student Council congratulates you and wishes you the best of luck in future endeavors. We know that you will make this department and your new alma mater proud!
