Brent Bowen, PhD

Brent Bowen, PhD, has been appointed the new head of the Department of Aviation Technology. He begins his duties July 1.

Bowen comes to Purdue from Parks College of Engineering, Aviation, and Technology at Saint Louis University where he is a professor and chair of the aviation science department. He has been the director of the office of Air Transportation Policy within the department and serves as a senior fellow for the National Center for Aviation Safety Research.

Bowen earned his doctorate in aviation sciences from Oklahoma State University and a master of business administration degree from Oklahoma City University. His Federal Aviation Administration certifications include Airline Transport Pilot (Type-rated Douglas DC-3 SIC), Certified Flight Instructor (SEL, MEL, Instrument) with Gold Seal, Advanced-Instrument Ground Instructor, Aviation Safety Counselor, and Aerospace Education Counselor. 

His research on the development of the national Airline Quality Rating is regularly viewed by more than 75 million people each year.
