O'Dea honored during tree planting ceremony

The members of the BCM Student Chapter of the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) honored the late Michael O’Dea May 6 with the planting of a tree near Knoy Hall. A professor in the Department of Building Construction Management, O’Dea died October 1, 2008. He had been diagnosed with brain cancer.

The ASHE members worked with a university arborist and their advisor, Professor Greg Lasker, to choose the tree and have it planted. The green hawthorn tree, native to Ireland, was planted between Knoy Hall and Northwestern Avenue and dedicated during a brief ceremony a the end of the spring semester.

A fund for study abroad in Ireland also has been created in O'Dea's name.
