Motevalli appointed head of MET

Vahid Motevalli has been appointed head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering Technology, effective September 1, 2009.

He has more than 25 years of teaching, research, and administrative experience in higher education, government, and industry. His prior academic experience includes professor of engineering and associate provost for graduate studies and research at Dubai Aerospace Enterprise University, director of the Aviation Institute and associate professor of engineering at George Washington University, and a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

His experience outside of academia includes work for the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory and as an American Society Of Mechanical Engineers Congressional Fellow. Most recently, he directed the International Aviation Safety and Security Summit program, which developed a leadership program for ministers and Directors General of civil aviation for more than 100 countries of the world.

Motevalli earned his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park.
