Penny Wars add to United Way campaign fun

The College of Technology is joining the rest of Purdue University in fundraising efforts for the United Way. In addition to the traditional pledging activities, the college has implemented a Penny War challenge among the departments.

Each department has a collection jar for the contest that will run until 5 p.m., Wednesday, September 30.  Each penny counts as one point. Silver change and dollar bills remove points from the final total: nickels subtract five points; dimes, 10 points, etc.

First place will be a pizza party for the department with the most points:  pennies minus silver and bills. The second place prize will be doughnuts for the department raising the most money.

Students are encouraged to participate as well.

To find out more about United Way, you can attend a presentation by representative Sheron Griggs, secretary for the Department of Aviation Technology, at 3:30 p.m., Monday, October 5, in Knoy B035.

CoT Dean Dennis Depew is the chair for the Purdue University 2009 United Way campaign. Kathy Newton, head of the Department of Industrial Technology, is the CoT Representative for the campaign.
