5th annual Tech Week planned for April 9-15, 2011

The College of Technology will celebrate its fifth annual Technology Week April 9-15 with the theme “We are Technology Makers.” The week is filled with a variety of activities to showcase how the college's faculty, students and alumni are having an impact on society.

Frank Gladstone, president of Gladstone Film and former head of artistic development at Dreamworks, will be the featured speaker during the annual Dean’s Lecture April 13. He will try to answer the question “Has Technology Made Movies Better” from his perspective as a filmmaker who relies heavily on technology.

As part of the Dean's Lecture, the college is conducting a Computer Animation Contest. Student submissions will be judged by a panel of judges, including Gladstone. The top three will be screened at the lecture, and prizes will be awarded at that time. Audience members will have the opportunity to vote on the People’s Choice Award.

Tech Week events will also give high school students the opportunity to delve into a specific technology topic during three evening Think Tech! sessions. They will be able to choose one class per night to explore what the College of Technology offers.

Alumni will be center stage at the end of week as nine graduates of the college will be honored as Distinguished Technology Alumni. They represent all eight departments and the graduate program.

Also during the week, current students will be showcased during events such as the annual Senior Picnic, the Student Leadership Award Reception and the University’s Undergraduate Research Poster Symposium.
