Greensburg location to observe Earth Day
Students at Purdue's College of Technology at Greensburg will be planting flowers and giving away trees as part of an Earth Day service learning project on April 18.
The event, which will take place from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Greensburg Adult Learning Center, involves nine students in JoDell Steuver's organizational leadership and supervision service learning class.
In addition, local Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts will help give away about 300 trees to community members who attend.
Steuver said the public is welcome to attend the event to pick up a tree or help with the landscaping and planting projects around the Greensburg Learning Center. Those wishing to participate should bring their own garden tools. About 100 plants and flowers will be planted.
The focus of Steuver's course this semester has been for students to improve the space around them, which has included shampooing the carpets and washing the windows of the Greensburg Adult Learning Center. Last year, students in the course traveled to Harlan County, Kentucky, to help residents of the impoverished county with tasks such as fixing up their homes.
