Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) 2012 Faculty Awards
National Excellence Teaching Award
Professor Brad Benhart was the recipient of the Associated Schools of Construction National Excellence Teaching Award. This award is made annually to one untenured, tenure track faculty member of a four-year ASC member school. It recognizes the faculty member's contribution to construction education, excellence in teaching, and dedication to the construction profession. Any non-tenured, tenure track faculty member with a minimum of 2 years teaching experience from an ASC member school could apply or be nominated at the regional-level. Each of the ASC regions forwarded one name to the national committee. Brad has been a faculty member at Purdue University since August 2009 and currently serves as the Assistant Department Head in the BCM Department.
Outstanding Educator Award
Professor James L. Jenkins was presented with the Associated Schools of Construction Outstanding Educator Award. This award is made annually to a faculty member of a four-year ASC member school. This award recognizes the faculty member's contribution to construction education, excellence in teaching, service to the Associated Schools of Construction, and dedication to the construction profession. Any full-time faculty member with a minimum of 7 years teaching experience from an ASC member school may apply or be nominated, with each ASC region forwarding one name to the national committee. James has been a faculty member at Purdue University since 1998.
Lifetime Achievement Awards
Professor Emeritus Dr. Steve D. Schuette was the recipient of the Associated Schools of Construction Lifetime Achievement award. This award is made to individuals who have made significant contributions to construction education. Criteria for the award included service to ASC, excellence in teaching, and exceptional service to the construction industry. In addition to receiving the award/plaque, Steve Schuette received complimentary conference registration and compensation for travel to the annual conference. Steve served as the BCM Department Head for 14 years (July 1992 - July 2006) and continued as a faculty member for an additional 5 years (Fall 2006 - Fall 2010) until his retirement on January 1, 2011.
