Organizational Leadership and Supervision (OLS)

Welcome to Purdue's Richmond home for Organizational Leadership and Supervision!

Organizational Leadership and Supervision (OLS) integrates the worlds of business and the people who bring it success.  The OLS program takes a highly individualized, practical, people-oriented approach to the practice of leadership. It provides a long-term educational emphasis on real-world work concepts and principles of enlightened leadership, rather than short-term supervisory approach.

In Richmond, Purdue University's College of Technology offers both the OLS Bachelor & Associate of Science (B.S. & A.S.) Degrees , as well as an OLS-Related Certificate .  The primary objective of the Organizational Leadership and Supervision program is the education and development of graduates who are career-ready for leadership roles in business, industry, and service agencies.  All programs help students prepare for such positions in areas such as supervision, production control, quality control, process engineering, customer service, training and development, human resource management, technical sales, general management, and military service.

The majority of each OLS degree program is comprised of required courses that provide the student with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform well in his or her first work-related professional position. The balance of the coursework consists of "technical" electives, allowing the student to specialize in a specific area, such as sales, finance, manufacturing, quality control, or human relations.

This program flexibility allows students to individualize their degree program to their specific career fields and goals. Students are counseled by a Purdue University academic advisor in planning a program of elective courses that will provide a foundation for excelling in their chosen careers, in an ever-higher technology workplace.

The Purdue University Associate of Science (A.S.) program is designed for individuals who want to add to their first-line supervisory/managerial skills, as well as their general education base. Graduates of the A.S. program are eligible to continue locally toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Leadership and Supervision or in Industrial Technology.

A student may start Purdue's Bachelor of Science (B.S.) program as a beginning college student, as a transfer student from another curriculum, or as the holder of a Purdue University A.S. degree. Transfer students often bring course credit satisfying most of these elective requirements.

Historically, the majority of the students in Purdue University's OLS programs in Richmond have been employed and have enrolled part-time. Typically, these individuals are already in supervisory roles or want to equip themselves for upward mobility into positions of yet higher responsibility.
