What is SOAR?

SOAR is a partnership between Purdue's College of Technology at Indianapolis, aviation businesses, and aviation professionals.

  • Students receive the necessary education while they work for (and earn a paycheck from) one of our partners.
  • Program partners gain knowledgeable employees as well as the gratification that they are helping students and the aviation industry.

soar student

Students who participate in SOAR graduate with a degree in aviation management or aeronautical technology.

Students take three classes each semester and graduate with an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in aviation management or a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical technology. They may also take courses that will put them on course to become an air traffic controller.

Expectations of students:

  1. Attend all classes
  2. Attend all work shifts
  3. Participate in tutoring opportunities
  4. Attend scheduled mentor meetings
  5. Maintain required university GPA

Who can apply?

The program is open to any student who wants to pursue an aviation program at the Indianapolis location. The goal is to increase the participation of women and underrepresented minorities in aviation programs.

The program

The SOAR program is offered only at the College of Technology’s Indianapolis location. Classes are offered at the Aviation Technology Center at the Indianapolis International Airport, 2175 South Hoffman Road.  Purdue University’s aviation program is among the best in the nation.
