CoT Home > About Us
Technology is everywhere.
It links you to your family and friends. It allows you to do work (and play) faster, sometimes while you’re not even around to notice it.
Look around. Listen. Technology plays a role in how we experience life and how we interact with others.
Our faculty teach with a blend of theory and real-world applications so that students experience their classes, not just attend them. We help students understand how technology influences the way we live.
Armed with that knowledge and awareness, students and faculty are able to address global challenges and individual challenges.
Where we've been and where we're going
In its nearly 50-year existence, the College of Technology has focused on using technology to make improvements in business, industry and education. The founding administrators and faculty understood the value of putting concepts into practice, and they designed curriculum to give students valuable exposure to hands-on lessons.
As technology evolved and became more ingrained in society, the programs expanded and shifted to respond to new needs. While none of today’s programs mirror the original offerings, they are still grounded in theory and the application of that theory.
As research became more prominent across the University, college leaders began identifying research areas that would keep the college in the forefront. The college’s six signature areas apply across departments and programs:
- Technology and Life Sciences
- Security and Forensics
- Advanced Manufacturing
- Cyberinfrastructure
- Energy and Sustainability
- STEM Education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math)
As the college and University look toward the future, administrators, faculty and staff will work to situate the college as a global leader in the definition and preparation of technologists who play a unique role in business, industry and society and to move the college from good to great.
