Every student has a story, Rose Delong-Bolyard says. And through her position at Purdue, she has helped write thousands of them.

As an academic advisor for the Department of Aviation Techology, Delong-Bolyard tends to the academic needs of more than 300 students. Despite the numbers, she treats each of them as an individual.

“I try to make them comfortable so they can tell their story. I listen, and we go from there,” she says. “Students come to Purdue with new challenges and talents from all over the world.”

Her dedication to her students and to the College of Technology helped her become the recipient of the 2008 Staff Leadership Award. She appreciates the honor, and she believes her colleagues share the distinction of the award with her.

In addition to her advising duties, Delong-Bolyard assists with the scheduling of semester classes, the recruitment of new students, graduation audits, and job placement.

“I think some people may be surprised by the variety involved in my job,” she says.
Away from work, Delong-Bolyard draws inspiration and support from family, friends, and her church.
