The mission of Hangar of the Future
To increase operational efficiency, safety, sustainability, and security by integrating state-of-the-art-technologies into the highly archaic aviation aircraft maintenance environment.
The goals of Hangar of the Future
The Hangar of the Future at Purdue University is part of the Aviation Innovation Laboratory. The team of aviation leaders and researchers seeks to integrate all segments of the aerospace industry — flight operations, maintenance repair, air traffic control, aerospace management, energy providers, environmental controls, and others — to provide a safe and profitable future in the global aerospace market.
By conducting a strategic assessment of the aviation industry, the team will develop a vision for the future that has practical applications in identifying new technology and processes that can benefit participating partners and position them for competitive advantages. The areas of grand challenges are:
- Human-automation interface
- Technology and operations innovations
- Global standardization
- Alternate energies for aviation
Our team is currently working on three projects as the foundation for the Hangar of the Future:
- Mobile booth
- Radio frequency identification
- Software
