Beyond the Bachelor's Degree

The Department of Building Construction Management (BCM) offers two construction management programs for those who already earned a bachelor's degree. The traditional classroom masters degree program is for individuals with a bachelor's degree in construction management or have demonstrated a thorough understanding of construction project management through experience. There is also an executive focused distance learning master's degree program for those currently employed construction management professionals who want to prepare for executive positions in construction management and have at least five years of responsible construction management.

The common goal of these construction management programs is to provide an educational experience to prepare for leadership positions in the construction industry. The current demand for graduates from the Building Construction Management undergraduate, graduate, and certificate programs is high with a near 100% placement rate.

Building Construction Management Master's Degree

Traditional Classroom

Purpose: This master's program provides Graduate Students in the Building Construction Management program with the opportunity to work and study with faculty members who have prominent reputations in the construction industry. An education in graduate construction management is one of the options of the College of Technology (CoT) Master of Science degree. This non-thesis master's degree program provides an opportunity for individualized professional development studies in construction management. Upon admission into the CoT Master of Science degree, the student is assigned an advisor from the Department of Building Construction Management. The advisor and the student put together a graduate degree plan of study that is customized for the individual student based upon his/her experience and career objectives.

Admission eligibility: Students admitted to this program must demonstrate a thorough understanding of construction project management.

This understanding can be demonstrated by one of the following means:

• A bachelor's degree in construction management from an accredited university.
• Five years of verifiable, responsible construction management experience.

In addition, applicants for admission to the Master of Science program are expected to have a bachelor's degree with a grade point average of at least 3.00 on a 4.00 scale and must submit acceptable scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) effective April 1, 2009. On the application select the West Lafayette campus and the Technology program, and the Building Construction Management area of interest, see the example below. Note, the three core courses (TECH 507, TECH 508, and TECH 646) are not required for the Building Construction Management area of interest.

Building Construction Management Master's Degree

Distance Learning
This program is designed for currently employed construction management professionals who want to prepare for executive positions in construction management.
