Discover why nearly 600 other Purdue female students are pursing a field of study within the College of Technology. Technology Experiences Cheerleading is designed for 7th—12th grade women who are currently interested in cheerleading or dance but are not familiar with the technology field.

This camp is your chance to discover many future opportunities in the College of Technology through hands-on activities while sharing your love of cheerleading with friends. This five day camp will be packed with fun and exciting Technology activities that all relate to cheerleading or dance! During the week you will also have many opportunities to work with current and former Purdue Cheerleaders in the College of Technology.

Date: July 19 - July 23, 2009

Housing/Food: Participants will stay in the air-conditioned Hillenbrand Hall and dine in Purdue's exquisite dinning courts.

Example Activities:

  • Campers will be challenged to program a 2-foot tall robot to perform apyramid of death choreographed dance. The campers will also have to perform this same dance along with the robot.
  • We have collaborated with the state of the art Envision Center at Purdue University.  Campers will utilize motion capture technology, such as that which is used in video games today. This activity will have the campers creating a cheerleading or dance routine on the computer from the captured cheerleading and motions to create their own “digital routine ”.
  • Of course the robots will need music to dance to. The campers will learn how to mix their own music as they also learn the physics of sound.
  • Aviation Technology has people flying all over the place and so will we, but we are going to do it in the pool! Campers will throw baskets in the pool after they learn the physics behind the madness. How Envision Centerdoes a plane take off and how does a person “take off”?
  • While working in teams all week long the campers will not only learn teamwork skills but also building construction management skills as they pass through various challenges.
  • The campers will be required to create their own 2.5 high person “structure” and then communicate it to the Purdue Cheerleaders, without ever meeting them. All they will have to work with is Alice (a programming program) and a one page word document.
  • How do products get from point A to point B? The Industrial technology department will show campers exactly how their shoes, poms and uniform orders get to them through the "supply chain game."

*Each major is represented through one of the many activities that are planned.

This camp is for you if…

  • You are entering 7th grade or are in High School
  • You are not sure what you want to major in at college
  • You enjoy learning through hands-on activities
  • You have an interest in cheerleading or dance
  • You have little knowledge on Technology, but would like to learn more
