Discover why nearly 600 Purdue female students are pursing a field of study within the College of Technology. Technology Experiences Cheerleading, TECh is designed for 7th—12th grade women who are currently interested in cheerleading and/or dance, but are not yet familiar withall the wonderful areas the technology field has to offer.

This camp is your chance to discover technology through hands-on activities while sharing your love of cheerleading with friends. This five day academic camp will be packed with fun and exciting Technology activities that all relate to cheerleading or dance! During the week, you will also get the chance to to meet and practice with Purdue Cheerleaders.

Discover technology through cheerleading related activities in: Aviation Technology, Building Construction Management, Computer and Information Technology, Computer Graphics Technology, Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, and Organizational Leadership & Supervision.

TECh Cheering

Date: July 18 - July 22, 2010

Housing/Food:

Participants will stay in the air-conditioned Hillenbrand Hall and dine in Purdue's award winning dinning courts.  

Example Activities:

  • You will start out by working with Alice - this is an opportunity to work with computer programming. You will create your own one dimensional cheerleading pyramid. We will then take what you developed to the field with a lap top where members of Purdue's Spirit Squad will perform your pyramid for you!
  • After this you will have an opportunity to practice 'stunting' with the cheerleaders.

Envision Center

  • You are the choreographer! We have collaborated with the state of the art Envision
    Center here at Purdue University.  Campers will utilize motion capture technology, such as that used in video games. This activity will have you creating a cheerleading/dance routine on the computer from the captured cheerleading motions to create your own “digital routine."

Motion Kiara

  • Aviation Technology has people flying all over the place and so will you. How does a plane take flight? How can you take flight? Join us for a lesson in physics behind the madness of "baskets." Then we are off to the swimming pool bound where Purdue cheerleaders will assist you in practicing 'basket tosses' in Purdue's aquatic center.
  • Building Contstruction Management and Organizational Leadesrship & Supervision sessions will provide you with life long teambuilding experiences as youy pass through various challenges.

  • How do products get from point A to point B? The Industrial Technology department will show you exactly how your shoes, poms and uniform orders get to you through the "supply chain game."

*Each major is represented through one of the many activities that are planned throughout the week.

  • You are entering 7th grade or are in High School
  • You are not sure what you want to major in at college
  • You enjoy learning through hands-on activities
  • You have an interest in cheerleading or dance
  • You have little knowledge about the field of Technology, but would like to learn more!

Dates

Camp will begin on Sunday, July 18 and go through Thursday, July 22. The program will conclude on Thursday, July 22, with a performance and presentation around noon. See the 2009 TECh Agenda,

Cost

$200 per person includes all housing accommodations, meals, and activities.
Note: Students with a strong desire to attend camp, but lacking financial means should contact Susan Manahan at manahan@purdue.edu.

Transportation

Transportation to and from the camp will be the responsibility of parents or guardians of camp participants.

Location

Purdue University is located in West Lafayette, Indiana. The Lafayette area is 65 miles northwest of Indianapolis and 90 miles southeast of Gary. Major bus lines provide service to West Lafayette and Amtrak trains make daily stops in Lafayette en route to Chicago and Indianapolis. Maps will be included in your conformation packet.
