Mission Statement

The mission of the graduate program in Computer Graphics Technology is to prepare students to demonstrate leadership potential in applied computer graphics professions and to advance the knowledge in the application and teaching of computer graphics through applied research, publishing, presentations, and teaching by the faculty and students.

Philosophy of the Graduate Program

The graduate program in Computer Graphics Technology encompasses multiple core competencies which guide faculty and student endeavors. The faculty and students strive to promote creativity in their approaches to teaching and learning, the selection of research topics and methodologies, and their problem-solving strategies. Communication is promoted through the use of novel visual mechanisms and techniques to disseminate information related to scholarly activities.

The faculty promotes the enhancement of the visualization process through engaging coursework and research opportunities. A common thread that pervades the core competencies is the use of computer graphics technology to enhance the visual, creative, and cognitive processes, as well as the impact of that technology on society at large. In addition, students and faculty are encouraged to demonstrate the potential for leadership within the discipline by actively developing and managing discovery and engagement activities. By doing so, a methodology of inquiry is developed to define the knowledge base and high-level technical competencies that embody the discipline of applied computer graphics.
