SIGGRAPH

Many of our faculty and students were involved with the 2003 SIGGRAPH conference in San Diego, CA in late July; which represented the largest and most diverse community of academics, industry professionals, scientists, and artists in computer graphics. An estimated 30,000 people attended the conference this year where once again, the Department of Computer Graphics Technology had a major presence.

CGT sponsored a reception for alumni and friends with 100 people attending. An Engineering graduate from 1964 received the oldest alumni award.

James Mohler , Associate Professor of CGT and Senior Research Scientist, ITaP, has been asked to chair the SIGGRAPH 2005 Annual Conference and Exposition in Los Angeles, California . John Finnegan , Associate Professor of CGT and SIGGRAPH 2003 Educator's Program Chair, has been selected for the SIGGRAPH 2006 Conference Chair.

Other CGT involvement in the 2003 conference included Frank Brattain serving on the Education Committee and Sara Porter serving on the Educator's Program Jury. Diana Stewart served as SPACE Poster Competition chair in which she organized the event, coordinated the judging of the posters, and finally developed the exhibition for the Education Committee.

Additional faculty who presented at the conference include Gary Bertoline, SCoTt Meador, Jana Whittington, James Mohler, and Ron Glotzbach . Those students who presented include: Michelle Rund, Eric Kurt, Kevin O'Neal, and Nishant Kothary. This recognition of our excellent faculty and student body in CGT is helping to further promote our department's image and mission.

CGT has setup a booth at the conference each of the past six years with Dennis Short and Jim Sprinkles managing it in recent years. A great deal of time and effort goes into setting up, managing, tearing down, traveling, and shipping the booth for the entire week. If you or your company would like to help promote the Department at SIGGRAPH or sponsor the reception, please contact Jim Sprinkles jasprinkles@tech.purdue.edu .

SIGGRAPH - Student Chapter

The Purdue University Student Chapter is quickly becoming one of the best student chapters of ACM SIGGRAPH. Last year, several well-known speakers visited our campus and gave outstanding presentations to rooms packed with 70 to 200 students.

Some of those speakers were Nathan Martz from Lucas Arts, Keith Lango from Big Idea in Chicago , Steve Shay from AGENCY.com in Chicago , and the keynote speaker from the 2003 Spring Banquet and Show, Terrence Masson . All of our events are posted to the newly renovated, dynamically-driven web site located at: http://siggraph.tech.purdue.edu

Ron Glotzbach (the faculty advisor for the Purdue Student Chapter) has been asked to serve as the 2004 Student Volunteers Chair for the annual SIGGRAPH conference in Los Angeles , California . The Student Volunteers program offers selected students the opportunity to become an integral part of the annual SIGGRAPH conference and presents opportunities to meet and learn directly from computer graphics industry professionals.
