E-Stadium Project

Purdue football e-Stadium (http://estadium.purdue.edu) has brought significant attention to itself by delivering interactive content that users want to receive during live-game attendance. The possibilities are seemingly limitless as project manager, Ronald Glotzbach, has entered into discussions with Intercollegiate Athletics, Information Technology at Purdue, and the Center for Wireless Systems and Applications about the possibilities of e-Arena and e-Athletics. The project was presented at SIGGRAPH 2005 and, most recently, an article about the project and Professor Glotzbach appeared online at purduesports.com.

Students, faculty, and staff have worked together for the 2005-2006 season to implement: new interface designs for the informational site and the .NET application; restaurant and hotel finders to assist fans in pre- or post-game activities; rules and regulations with descriptions of penalties and hand signals; interactive season schedules to allowfans to view past, present, and future games; first aid and other service finders to assist fans with game-time needs; a customized Content Management System for data maintenance and manipulation; a helpdesk complete with users, staff, and administrators for tracking and fixing issues.

Future development may include: driving directions and alternate routes to help alleviate traffic congestion; a game ticker that displays vital stats, scores, and alerts pushed to the device like a stock ticker. Wireless applications such as e-Stadium are only the beginning of what is certain to be a new age of experience-based applications for sporting and other venues.

St. Mary's Hospital Project

In May 2004, Principal Investigator Ron Glotzbach and Co-PI Kellen Maicher began an engagement partnership with St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville, Indiana, redesigning their web presence at www.stmarys.org.

The new presence went live in January 2005 and a new contract was signed extending the project through April 2006. The project extension has funded three students thus far and proves to be an exciting and challenging endeavor for students. New and future development includes the continued expansion of a customized Content Management System in areas such as: the creation of an image manager, text manager, and menu manager; a video delivery web portal; implementation of a helpdesk to track issues from development through quality assurance and production; and potentially exploring potential with handheld devices.
