Welcome from the Department Head
Lonnie D. Bentley
Professor and Department Head
The Department of Computer and Information Technology (CIT) at Purdue provides educational opportunities that apply information technologies to solve business and industrial problems. All CIT majors who successfully complete degree requirements earn the B.S. in Computer and Information Technology degree with a specialization in either Information Systems and Technology (IST) or Network Engineering Technology (NET).
The Department of Computer and Information Technology was established in 1978 and since grown to include 500 majors and 3,000 CIT alumni! Our program is offered at Purdue campuses across Indiana, including the West Lafayette main campus, Anderson, Columbus, Kokomo, South Bend. Many of faculty have several years of industry experience in the IT industry. Several are award winning teachers, nationally and internationally published authors, and actively engaged in applied research activities with industry. The department is most proud of its students and alumni. Our students are exposed to state-of-the-art laboratories and work hard to develop their knowledge and skills to make themselves some of the most highly sought after IT graduates in the country. It is no wonder that many of our alumni have experienced successful careers and attained leadership positions in Fortune 100 corporations.
