Placement Testing

Once you're admitted to Purdue University College of Technology, your academic career begins with placement testing followed by orientation. The purpose of placement testing is to help your academic advisor place you into the appropriate courses and maximize the information needed to ensure your success at Purdue.

The placement test consists of the English (writing) and the COMPASS mathematics test. Unlike IUPUC students, Purdue University College of Technology students are NOT required to take the reading portion of the placement test.

The English placement test is an exam that requires you to write a short essay that takes, and supports, a stand on a social issue. The test determines which one of the two writing courses is the best place for you to begin your college writing career.

Detailed information, including sample questions, on the COMPASS Mathematics test is available at the following website:

www.act.org/compass/sample/math.html

Schedule your placement test 2 weeks before orientation by calling 812-348-7271 to ensure we can register you for all your classes at orientation. Let them know you are a Purdue College of Technology student.

REMEMBER: When making your reservation, you MUST tell them you are a Purdue University College of Technology student so they know you won't be taking the reading portion of the placement tests.
