Professor and Department Head

Welcome to the Department of Computer Information Technology (CIT) at Purdue University. Since its creation in 1978, the CIT department has been offering innovative curricula that are rigorous, timely, and focused on preparing lifelong learners and future leaders in the field of Computing and Information Technology. Our motto as a Department and College is to put students first in everything we do. Since its inception, in 1978, the department has graduated over 3,500 alumni spread across the globe. Our program is offered statewide, i.e. in Indiana at Purdue campuses in West Lafayette, Columbus, and Kokomo. We offer BS, MS, and a (college-wide) PhD programs.

The CIT program is among the first IT programs nationally to be accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org, using their IT program standards. Accreditation is a distinction where an outside governance organization, in our case ABET, has audited the program, and verified that the program delivers the highest quality education and training in this field of study.

CIT combines a solid foundation with a focus on hands-on laboratories, problem solving skills, and a solution-driven technology integration approach. Our students have ample opportunities to engage with the faculty in research projects and to be involved in development projects and internships with our industrial and government partners. The Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) student chapter at Purdue is one of the largest chapters in the nation and is an excellent way for students to network and take on leadership roles. The college-wide Women in Technology (WIT) and the Minority Technology Association (MTA) at Purdue are also home to many of our students and offer many networking and outreach activities.

The CIT faculty combine an academic expertise with industrial and government experience that span all areas of the curriculum. They have vibrant research programs with prominence in security, homeland security, and cyberforensics, high-performance and distributed computing, robotics, and health and bio-informatics. They are distinguished by an entrepreneurship and early adopter attitude in their research, teaching and engagement activities. Their research is funded by federal agencies: the National Science Foundation, the National Institute of Health, the Department of Energy, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation in addition to grants and contracts with the industry. The CIT faculty are also reputed for their curricular and pedagogical strengths. Several of the faculty are authors of seminal textbooks and award winning teachers with curricular strengths in systems analysis and design, network design and administration, project management and information technology leadership.

Welcome to CIT, and please contact us with any questions and suggestions,
