Electronics surround us today, from our cell phones, our cars, our mp3 players, and, of course, the computers that enable this web site. As consumers, we are exposed to electronic devices every day, but most of us rarely consider the people who designed, improved, and manufactured the electronics inside. Yet, there is much more to this discipline than consumer devices. We are the providers of innovative and practical solutions to many of the problems facing humanity today.
Electrical engineering technology (EET) is a core discipline, enabling students to solve applied engineering problems based on foundational knowledge. EET alumni are working in a wide spectrum of careers, including medical electronics, electrical energy systems, automated manufacturing, telecommunications, electric vehicles, and audio/video systems. Our graduates look for positions where they can use technology to develop new products, solve problems, and help people.
The ECET faculty are experienced engineers who bring their years of experience into the classrooms and labs. The blend of theory and real-life practice throughout all four years of the BS program provides an active and exciting approach to learning. Incoming students are exposed to electrical and electronic systems as freshmen, and then the core courses are added to provide deeper understanding of the components and methods of the discipline. Students design, build, and test hardware and software, with advanced coursework in embedded controllers, RF communications, industrial automation, power electronics, audio systems, biomedical image processing, and instrumentation and control. By graduation, our students successfully manage a yearlong senior project with the knowledge to be self-directed learners.
Success for the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology is measured by the success of our graduates. Alumni from the Electrical Engineering Technology program at Purdue have a long history of success, both regionally and nationally. International study options are expanding the perspectives and employment opportunities for our alumni. The need for technical graduates is steadily increasing, and Purdue is a leader in engineering technology.
In addition to West Lafayette, the undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in EET is available at Kokomo, New Albany, and South Bend.
