The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology at Purdue University  is seeking applications for a senior faculty member at the tenured full professor rank with named professorship opportunities beginning in August 2009 for a 10-month appointment.  The faculty position requires an earned Ph.D. or equivalent with degrees related to signature areas.  Signature research areas include cyber infrastructure and high performance computing, sensors  and wireless sensor networks, communications, biotechnology, instrumentation,  power electronics and energy efficiency/sustainability.  Outstanding candidates with other research interests appropriate to the department will also be considered.

Successful applicants are expected to participate in the teaching mission of the university and to provide service such as a leadership for major applied research initiatives being pursued by groups of faculty with industry or traditional funding agencies. Applications from outstanding candidates in all curriculum and research areas of the department will be considered. We are particularly interested in applicants who have a strong vision for how their work will impact research and educational programs, and will be enhanced by joining the faculty at Purdue. Successful candidates must possess proven leadership skills to build and sustain a research program. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate scholarship in the areas of learning, discovery, and/or industry-professional-community engagement; and, actively seek sources of external funding to support these activities.

The college of technology has undertaken the challenge of developing a world class applied research footprint focused on discovery with delivery. Experience with industry and the ability to create mutually beneficial  relationships and programs is particularly preferred.

Assistant/Associate Professor-10-Month

The department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology (ECET) and the department of Computer & Information Technology (C&IT) at Purdue University are accepting applications for a joint tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor with research and teaching expertise related to the joint appointment. This position requires teaching undergraduate and graduate courses specializing in applied electronics and software development as well as pursuing funded research related to the application of ECET, C&IT, and select signature areas of the College of Technology. A goal for this position is to establish a nationally recognized research program related to High Performance Computing and/or Biotechnology-related areas.

Qualifications

All candidates must have an earned PhD with degrees in electrical and/or computer engineering/technology, computer science, or a closely related field. Candidates must have at least three years of full-time, relevant industrial or basic applied research experience and excellent teaching skills. Candidates must be able to teach Digital Telecommunications (a junior level class) as well as courses in one of the above strategic research areas.  The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate scholarship in the areas of learning, discovery, and industry/professional/community engagement and actively seek sources of external funding to support these activities.  The ability to keep current with the needs of research laboratories; participate in academic conferences; publish in scholarly journals; develop and maintain a modern electrical/computer technology teaching/research laboratory; work closely with the other units on the West Lafayette campus; seek external support to fund applied research projects; advise graduate students; and achieving strong, positive teaching evaluations will be required for promotion and tenure. Rank and salary will be commensurate with candidate’s qualifications and experience.

The Departments and the College

  • The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology and the Department of Computer & Information Technology are two of eight departments in the College of Technology with dynamic undergraduate / graduate programs and expanding discovery and engagement opportunities on the West Lafayette campus. The College of Technology administers the Doctor of Philosophy degree in which both ECET and C&IT participate. Ample opportunities exist for the successful candidate to collaborate with the Purdue University Discovery Park Research Centers that are described at http://www.purdue.edu/dp/.

This position is a 10-month renewable academic appointment with the successful candidate teaching a variety of courses in the Electrical Engineering Technology B.S. program. The department’s mission is primarily teaching, educational scholarship through applied research, and industry/professional/community outreach.

Requirements: Candidates for this Statewide Technology position should be able to teach in two or more of the following areas: analog and digital electronics, controls, embedded microprocessors, and communication electronics. All candidates should have an earned Masters Degree or Ph.D. in electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology, or a relevant field. All candidates must have at least three years of full-time relevant U.S. based industrial experience. Prior teaching experience is preferred.
