Policy on Senior Project Acceleration

The overall premise is that compression of EET 496 and EET 497 is only available in the case that a student has completely assimilated the material and completed the project covered by the two courses.  i.e. students must earn the privilege of acceleration.  Acceleration is only available the first time a student enrolls in EET 496 .

The process:

  1. Students desiring to complete EET 496 and EET 497 in a single semester must inform the EET 496/497 course coordinator during the first week of EET 496.  If they are planning to graduate at the end of the semester, they must also inform the counselor and declare themselves as 'candidate' when they enroll in EET 496.  Failure to do either of these steps will remove any possibility of directed credit in EET 497.
  2. Students must then complete their senior project in such a manner as to meet the criteria set out below while still enrolled in and attending EET 496.
  3. In additional to their EET 496 assignments, students attempting to accelerate are responsible to complete the extra assignments shown on the syllabus.  Students who are accelerating may use their final senior project report grade in place of the 'Progress Report' for EET 496. The grade on this report will be prorated to determine the 496 report score.
  4. Assuming that the students meet all the criteria below, they will be granted 'directed credit' for EET 497 (no grade) and will, therefore, meet all requirements for the senior project.

Minimum criteria for being granted directed credit in EET 497:

  1. Complete all acceleration assignments on time with a passing grade (>60%) for each. Failure to complete any accelerated assignment will remove you from any possibility of acceleration.
  2. Complete EET 496 with a grade of A or B.
  3. Complete the senior project and be ready to present a 100% working project that meets all specifications.  The project must have been completely packaged and tested 100% in accordance with the test plan.  i.e. a totally complete and working project.
  4. Complete the Senior Project Presentation with a grade of 60% or higher.
  5. Complete the Senior Project Report with a grade of 60% or higher.

Information for those who attempt acceleration, but don't make it.

  1. You must then enroll in and complete EET 497 in its usual form.
  2. Your grade in EET 496 will depend strictly on EET 496 requirements and how well they were met.
