Timothy L Skvarenina Ph.D., P.E.
Professor Biography:Tim Skvarenina was born in Chicago, Illinois. He received the BSEE and MSEE degrees from the Illinois Institute of Technology and the Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Purdue University. He served 21 years in the U.S. Air Force, including six years designing, constructing, and inspecting electric power distribution projects for a variety of facilities. He spent five years teaching and researching pulsed power systems including railgun systems, high power switches, and magnetocumulative generator modeling. He also has four years experience in operations research, having conducted large-scale systems analysis studies for the Strategic Defense Initiative. In 1991, he joined the faculty of the College of Technology at Purdue University where he primarily teaches undergraduate courses in electrical machines and power systems. He is a senior member of the IEEE; a member of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), Tau Beta Pi, and Eta Kappa Nu; and a registered professional engineer in the state of Colorado. He has authored or coauthored over 30 papers in the areas of power systems, pulsed power systems, and engineering education. He is the primary author of a textbook, now in its second edition, and is Editor-in-Chief of a Power Electronics Handbook.
He has served as Chair of the Central Indiana Chapter of the IEEE Power Engineering Society, Chair of the ASEE Energy Conversion & Conservation Division, and as a Vice President, and member of the board of directors, of ASEE. He was a member of the Purdue University Senate from 1999-2007 and served as Chair of the Educational Policy Committee in 2003-04, Vice-Chair of the Senate in 2004-05, and Chair of the Senate in 2005-06. He is currently a member of the Purdue Athletic Affairs Committee. |
