Joint proposal with University of Illinois Urbana Champagne. $600,000. Proposal Submitted

  2. Rogers, M. (PI) - C&IT (2011) DHS/Purdue HSI Cell Phone Project

Funded project to research digital evidence triage issues with cell phones.

  3. Rogers, M. PI- Purdue (2010) NIJ - National Tool Testing and Validation Center - Mac Forensics Tools

The Purdue Cyber Forensics Lab in partnership with the University of Central Florida, has been awarded a grant to setup a National Tool Testing and Validation Center for computer forensic tools. Purdue will focus on Apple Mac tools and UCF will focus on Windows and Linux/Unix tools.

  4. Principle Investigator (2007) File Hound: Law Enforcement Contraband Images Investigative Tool

The specific objectives of this project are to: Support law enforcement engaged in child pornography investigations; Allow investigators to more quickly process large volumes of potential evidence; and Provide an automated tool that assists in the reporting of findings from an investigation. This project will assist law enforcement’s efforts in the area of technological and computer crime investigation related to Internet crimes against persons, with the specific focus on child pornography and obscenity investigations. We propose to expand the development of a free forensic tool (File Hound) that will allow investigators to more effectively and efficiently sift through volumes of data while searching for contraband images. The project will enable us to extend the capability of the tool to filter searches for skin color/tone, eliminate graphics files that are not pictures (e.g., icons, buttons etc.), eliminate files based on known good hash values and provide a standard report output format (PDF). The tool, File Hound, is already in use by state and local law enforcement officers in Indiana and has been part of joint training projects offered by Purdue University and the National White Collar Crime Center.
