She has multiple areas of expertise including: human factors and psychology in organizational technology integration; statistics and data integration to enhance organizational effectiveness; SPSS and LISREL data analysis software implementation to study technology industries; survey design, validation and implementation; and aviation psychology.

She also provides training and education in the application of advanced statistical techniques to organizational settings, particularly survey design and analysis, advanced confirmatory factor analytic and structural equation modeling techniques, and SPSS and LISREL use with applied datasets. Dr. Bowen's research and expertise has been featured in several national and international news outlets, including an appearance on the nationally syndicated radio program, "Rudy Maxa's World with Christopher Elliott".

Dr. Bowen is a founder of the interdisciplinary Applied Human Factors Research Laboratory at Purdue. The Applied Human Factors lab is focused on bringing expertise from psychology, aviation, and other industries to understand and improve the human component of high consequence and high technology organizations.

Current research projects include:

  • Identifying training requirements and human factors issues to encourage physically disabled students into the aviation industry
  • Comparative analysis of consumer perceptions and  objective quality performance in a high-technology industry
  • Identifying predictors of student success in technology-mediated education
  • Assessing experiential learning through case research methods in distributed learning environments
  • Training and competency modeling requirements for light sport aircraft instructors
  • Status of statistical training competence in Technology fields

In addition, Dr. Bowen is associate editor of the Journal of Aviation Technology and Engineering (www.jateonline.org) and a member of the  the Society for Industrial & Organizational Psychology, Association for Aviation Psychology, the American Psychological Association, APA Division 21: Applied Experimental and Engineering Psychology, the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, University Aviation Association, and American Mensa, Ltd.

Dr. Bowen holds a Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Saint Louis University, along with a graduate minor in Research Methodology. She primarily teaches advanced courses in statistics, research, and human factors for technology & industry. Prior to joining the faculty at Purdue, Dr. Bowen was Assistant Director for the National Center for Aviation Safety Research in St. Louis, MO and a consultant for the Federal Aviation Administration and other industries.
