Study Abroad

The IT department faculty have tremendous international experience, and encourage students in IT, ID, and TE, to experience the world. In fact, one of our strategic goals in the Department is to encourage students to travel and study abroad. The Department and the College of Technology have several programs around the world for students to experience. Below is a list of the programs that are available, some information about the respective programs / schools, as well as tourist information. There is also a list of IT faculty who have visited the country. Feel free to ask them questions about their experiences.

FAQ's

Several students have questions about studying abroad, and how it will impact their plan of study, the costs associated with it, and whether the classes will transfer.

Can I afford to Study Abroad?

Students who participate in study abroad pay Purdue tuition for most programs. Financial aid also applies in most cases and many programs have scholarships and travel grants available. You can also get discounted student airfares.

Will my class transfer?

Programs have been designed so that there is minimal disruption to your academic plan. You will receive Purdue credits and grades for all approved courses taken overseas. A study abroad liasion will help you choose your classes and determine how your grades will transfer. In the Department of Industrial Technology, Mr. Craig Mallet will help you register for courses.

Do I have to speak another language?

Over half of the study abroad programs do not require a foreign language, and there are English speaking programs in non-English speaking countries. Study abroad offers you the chance to interact with a new culture, new language, and meet people from around the world. In the Department of Industrial Technology, we have partnerships with Ireland and Australia.

Will I graduate on-time?

Adding a semester abroad should not impact your plan of study if you plan properly and early. There are several choices that are available - semester and academic year programs. Summer programs are 4-8 weeks long, and short-term programs are 1-3 weeks long. Sometimes there are programs during Spring Break, Maymester, and Summer Session.
