Purdue Students |
Welcome to our Department. This page is devoted to students who are already enrolled at Purdue, and are interested in CODO'ing into IT. CODO'ing into our department is relatively simple: an adjusted 2.5 minimum GPA is required and there are no required CODO meetings to attend.
Students who CODO into the department are usually very successful, as the Department is very student centered. The curriculum is challenging in many different ways. Several of the IT classes require lab activities which are geared around applying the knowledge applied in class. Many of our faculty have interests not only in their major research area, but also in teaching and delivery methods. Classes use a wide variety of technology and approaches that are designed to maximize student learning. Our faculty teach lower level courses as well - and our department has very high student evaluation scores. Many of our teachers have received awards from both students and peers alike.
Our strengths dont just lie in the classroom - many of our faculty are also engaged in a wide range of research activities - many times providing opportunities for research projects for undergrad students as well. If youre interested, simply ask a faculty member. A list of faculty is available here, with their research interests included.
Our placement record is also outstanding, many years we achieve 100% placement. The average salary is in the mid to upper 40's, and we have a placement coordinator that sends out job placement, schedules interviews, and actively liaises with companies to place IT students. With an IT or ID degree, your career opportunities are endless - our alumni are involved in a wide range of industries across the United States and the world. They work for a diverse set of companies including Accenture, Boeing, GE, GM, General Mills, Lilly, Rockwell Automation, Rolls-Royce, Pepsi, Lockheed Martin, and Subaru.
There are three different degree options in the Industrial Technology program - Industrial Technology, Industrial Distribution and Technology Education. We invite you to take a look at each of these degree program.
For each of the degree programs, the distribution of the courses are shown below. An additional benefit is that in the Mathematical and Physical Sciences area, the only math requirement you need is Pre-Calculus.
If you are interested - please contact Mr. Craig Mallet or Dr. Kathryne Newton - or any of the degree co-ordinators to come and talk about your options.

Our Degree Programs
---
IT in our department is Industrial Technology, which is a broad discipline that will prepare you for a wide range of exciting careers in either manufacturing engineering, operations and product management, operations and sales management for industrial distributors, logistics and warehouse management, to name a few. We offer three different degree programs, Industrial Technology, Industrial Distribution and Technology Education.
Industrial Technology
---
The “Industrial Technology” (IT) degree program is primarily involved with the management, operation, and maintenance of complex technological systems. By pursuing a degree in the Industrial Technology program, you will position yourself to work in a broad range of technical and/or managerial positions in technical manufacturing or commercial environments. Industrial technology students are exposed to a wide range of manufacturing and operations coursework. This degree provides a high degree of flexibility for students desiring to add a specialization to their degree with elective coursework.
Industrial Distribution
---
“Industrial Distribution” (ID) is a technology and business-oriented degree program that prepares students for a career that requires technology know-how, business savvy, data processing, great communication skills, and leadership. The day-to-day challenges faced in the distribution of technological products by the manufacturer, the industrial distributor, or the manufacturer’s representative requires a high degree of professionalism with business and technical talent. The ID curriculum provides students with a valuable blend of courses in industrial technology, distribution management, and business management. Our program is designed to produce technical problem solvers with business and supply chain knowledge tailored specifically for the distribution industry. Our graduates work effectively in all aspects of distribution.
IT / ID Dual Degree
---
It is common for students to combine this degree with the Industrial Distribution degree program for a dual-degree in IT/ID that is highly valued by employers.
Technology Education
---
“Technology Education,” (TE) perhaps easier understood as technology teacher education, allows a student to combine the desire to teach with an enthusiasm for engineering technology. Purdue University’s TE program prepares graduates to teach in middle school and high school technology education classrooms. There is currently a shortage of technology education teachers across the nation; Purdue’s program places 100% of its graduates. TE teachers instruct both middle-level and secondary courses in the areas of design technology, drafting (CAD), construction technology, electricity/electronics, manufacturing technology, power and energy, and transportation technology. Purdue’s Technology Education Program was rated Outstanding Program for 2006 by Association for Career and Technical Education.
Once you join the Department
---
Once you CODO into the Department, you'll have plenty of opportunities to meet other students through our student organizations. Watch for the callout sessions. The groups - PAID, NAIT and TECA are active, and invite speakers from the various professions to campus, and actively encourage networking.
