Vision of Industry and Schools In
In operation since 1994, VISION is a unique teacher and curriculum enhancement program created to benefit North Central Indiana teachers and students. It is made possible by a total community business/education partnership involving 13 businesses, eight school corporations, and three universities/colleges.
VISION is designed to help teachers bring relevancy to what they teach by transferring real-world, "state-of-the-art" business experiences into classroom instruction. The program begins with a three-week summer session during which teachers, grades 5 - 12, become actively engaged "on-site" in the latest technology functioning in business and industry.
With assistance and instruction from an Indiana University curriculum specialist and technical assistance from Purdue University and Ivy Tech State College educators, the teachers are required to translate their business experiences into curricula for presentation in their classrooms. For meeting these criteria, the teachers earn three graduate education credits from Indiana University. They are also paid a stipend. 142 teachers have successfully completed the program and earned the status of "VISION Fellow".
