Christine L. Corum
Interim Department Head

The mission of the MET Department is to educate mechanical engineering technicians and technologists who are well grounded in the fundamental principles of science and engineering, and oriented to their practical applications in business and industry.

The MET Department is committed to excellence through both A.S. and B.S. programs. The A.S. and B.S. programs are offered on the West Lafayette campus. The A.S. programs are also offered at six other statewide locations which include: Columbus, South Bend/Elkhart, Kokomo, Muncie, New Albany, and Richmond. The curricula is grounded in math, science, and engineering principles with practical applications in the following technical areas: computer aided drawing and design, fluid power, heat power, mechanics, materials, manufacturing processes, industrial organization and management. The curricula is designed to prepare graduates for employment in manufacturing, management, product development, design, testing, plant operations, technical sales and service, and many other ways. Possibilities are almost unlimited.

During the past several years, graduates have benefited from placement rates of 100% with starting salaries averaging in the mid $40,000 range for the past several years.

The MET Department is committed to continuously updating its curriculum and laboratories so that it can ensure technical currency and maintain its position as one of the nation's premier MET programs.

I encourage you to find out more about our curricula, courses, facilities, and faculty by continuing your electronic tour through our web pages. Also, please feel free to come by our offices at Knoy Hall, room 145, anytime to get an old-fashion, walk-through tour.
