MET Corporate Opportunities

Opportunities for Building Student Relations

There are numerous opportunities for building relations with students and attracting graduates.  Some of these opportunities include:

Undergraduate Student Design Projects - There are opportunities to provide undergraduate design projects in a number of different courses.  These activities can be team projects or individual.  These projects can typically be in any of the technical areas listed in "Departmental Services and Capabilities".

Graduate Student Directed Projects - There are opportunities to provide independent directed projects for College of Technology graduate students.  These projects can typically be in any of the technical areas listed in "Departmental Services and Capabilities".

Opportunities for Building Faculty Relations

There are a numerous opportunities for building relations with faculty.  Some of these opportunities include:

Industrial Advisory Committee - Bi-annual involvement with MET's Industrial Advisory Committee would greatly benefit the department.  Industry plays an important role in regularly helping the department establish vision and a long-range plan.  This committee also has major input on curriculum issues.

Endowed Professorship for Design - This endowed professor would specifically facilitate design and project based learning. ($1.5M)

Visiting Industrial Instructors/Professors - The companies and the MET Department could mutually benefit from industry employees serving as shared or visiting instructors/professors.

Faculty Sabbaticals - Since MET has such a strong emphasis on the applied side of engineering it is important that the faculty regularly spend time in industry.  As such, the MET faculty are frequently looking for good employment opportunities for sabbatical leaves.  Sabbaticals are typically one semester or one year.  One-semester sabbaticals are fully funded by the university and one-year sabbaticals are funded at half-salary by the university.

Faculty Teaching Awards - The MET Department currently offers three faculty teaching awards each year. The desire is to provide a cash award with each of these honors.  The gifts could be one-time, recurring, or endowed.  This is an excellent opportunity to honor our most outstanding faculty.

Opportunities for Integrating with Laboratories

There are a numerous opportunities for integrating with the MET laboratories.  All the laboratory equipment within the MET Department is used primarily for instruction.  Current laboratory equipment needs include:
